Publisher's Synopsis
Blackwell's Learning Library
Parents and teachers may be interested to know the principles which have guided us in the production of these books.
FACTS; these are simply told in a straightforward way. All the authors have been at pains to avoid 'stories' or an avuncular approach.
PICTURES; these have been drawn with special reference to the text. We have thought it better value to provide four pictures in full colour than to scatter single colours through the text merely for decoration.
ACCURACY; wherever possible the books have been cross-checked by experts.
FURTHER STUDY; we have tried in the text constantly to encourage children to look around, search elsewhere, question themselves, and follow up their discoveries in many ways.
WRITTEN WORK; in particular, the editors presume that the children will write a great deal as a result of what they read here and discover elsewhere.
Basil Blackwell; Oxford, 1968, hardcover with unclipped dust cover. Preowned. No ISBN.
