David Loades was educated at Emanuel College Cambridge. He lectured at the University of Durham for many years before becoming Professor of History at University College of North Wales, Bangor in 1980 where he remains in post.  He has also held a Visiting Fellowship at All Souls Carlton College, Oxford.
