Three children, home for the holidays, find that there is a boy living next door to them - but a very mysterious boy.  People tell them that there is no boy there,  but they know there is.  Who is he?  Why is he in hiding?  Can they make friends with him?  They tunnel under the hedge to the boy, and then the fun begins.  Kit is a prisoner, and is in danger of being kidnapped.  The children make up their minds to save him, and have all kinds of exciting adventures.
