Hodder & Stoughton; 1896. Hardcover with the publishers original buckram cloth. This is a true UK first edition, first printing copy of J.M. Barrie's moving biography of his mother, Margaret Ogilvy. This was published in London in 1896 and written just a few years before his creation of Peter Pan. It has a tissue-guarded portrait frontispiece of Margaret Ogilvy. Complete with the traditional 204 pps. of text followed by 4 pps. of publisher adverts at the rear. The original dark cloth boards show bright gold gilt lettering to the spine. Light shelf wear and rubbing to the spine caps and corner tips, with a small amount of expected natural sunning/fading to the spine cloth. The binding itself is firm and square and structurally sound. Hinges are intact with some webbing showing though internal front hinge. The interior pages are clean with natural, uniform tanning to the endpapers. There is some light, expected age-spotting (foxing) primarily concentrated on the preliminary pages and around the frontispiece. Pages remain crisp and the binding is firm, square, and structurally sound. Pages are hand-cut. Preowned. No ISBN.
