The third volume of 'English Verse', and anthology in five volumes, covers the 18th-century, and marks the transition from the neo-classical school of Pope and his followers to the Romantics.  This selection opens with Dryden, and the 77 poets represented include Rochester, Swift, Gay, Pope, Thomson, Johnson, Gray, Collins, Goldsmith, Cowper, Crabbe, Blake, Burns and Wordsworth.  As with the companion volumes, this collection is notable for the inclusion of long poems, from Pope's 'The Rape of the Lock' to Wordsworth's 'Michael'.
