Eastern Region Steam Twilight Part Two North of Grantham By Colin Walker

Publisher’s Synopsis

With one or two minor but relevant exceptions Colin Walker’s ‘Eastern Region Steam Twilight-Part 2’ draws upon a further selection of largely unpublished photographs taken north of Grantham during the late 1950’s and early 60’s. Besides, a sizeable representation of main line workings it also includes a substantial amount of secondary and freight traffic at centres like Lincon, Nottingham and Retford. While such trains offered no prestige image to the public and the engines that hauled them were frequently sadly neglected and unkempt, they were visually still wonderfully inspiring. They were also an essential part of the railway scene in steam’s declining years and embraced traffics that for reasons of industrial economic change including (including internal planning folly!) have now disappeared or been lost to the roads.
