Surrounded by narrow streets and historic buildings, the Piazza del Mercato Centrale is located at the heart of Florence’s historical centre. It is here, in the area previously occupied by the ancient , and rather insalubrious, neighbourhoods of Via dell’Ariento, Via Panicale, Via Chiara and Via Sant’ Antonio, that the stone, iron and glass structure that became home to the city’s largest open-air food market was built……..It was in one of the surviving buildings of this lively and crowded square in the middle of Florence that Trattoria Za Za was born and still exists to this day……. It was April 7th 1977, when Stefano, having just turned nineteen took over the running of the restaurant , which he turned into a modest trattoria offering a set menu for 800 lira that would bring the customers in droves…..
This book is full of beautiful recipes, both. well known and not so well known. A beautiful book.
