Memories of Frank Patterson By Frank Patterson

Publisher's Synopsis

In the history of British art in the past 150 years, perhaps the most prominent feature has been the development of drawing in black and white.  No other country with the exception of China and Japan has produced such a quantity of artists working in this medium.  Frank Patterson, being a professional, was acutely aware that should his work be reproduced badly his reputation as an artist would suffer.  So early in his career he acquainted himself with the demands of the printer.  Pressure was put upon the illustrators, to produce the work and an artist who could quickly 'draw to order' was in great demand. Patterson when a young man could work very quickly; this attribute combined with his reputation for always meeting deadlines, made him a popular illustrator among editors and publishers.
